Three and a half years ago, Germany had around 130 padel courts. Today it has more than 2,300. Since July alone, more than 400 new courts have opened, close to five a day. And this week, the world's top 10 players arrive in Düsseldorf for the CUPRA Germany Premier Padel P2.
Germany is no longer padel's sleeping giant. It is wide awake. Here is what the numbers say, where the sport is booming, and why Skull Padel is now putting Germany at the centre of its plans.
Padel in Germany by the numbers
The most complete count comes from PadelCompass, which tracks every facility in the country. Its census of 1 October 2026 shows:
| Metric | Germany, October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Padel courts | 2,332 |
| Facilities | 726, in 493 cities and towns |
| Indoor / outdoor | 1,341 indoor (57.5%) / 991 outdoor |
| Courts per 100,000 residents | 2.79 |
| Court price, peak hours (median) | €32 per hour |
| Court price, off-peak (median) | €26 per hour |
| Licensed tournament players | 5,300 (Nov 2024) |
Most of those courts are indoors. That matters in a country with long, wet winters: padel in Germany is a year-round sport, not a summer hobby.
From 130 courts to more than 2,300
Few sports have grown this fast in Germany. Different sources count in slightly different ways, but the direction is clear:
- Early 2023: roughly 130 courts
- Late 2024: 830 courts, according to the Deutscher Padel Verband
- End of 2025: 1,255 courts, according to Padelfinder
- July 2026: 1,910 courts
- October 2026: 2,332 courts
That is 422 new courts in a single quarter. The Playtomic Global Padel Report 2026 puts Germany's average annual growth since 2021 at 81%.
Padel is also no longer just a big-city thing. 78 of Germany's 81 cities with more than 100,000 residents now have a padel facility within 10 kilometres.
Where Germany plays
North Rhine-Westphalia is the clear padel capital of Germany, with almost a third of all courts in the country.
- North Rhine-Westphalia: 697 courts at 193 facilities
- Bavaria: 367 courts at 115 facilities
- Baden-Württemberg: 321 courts at 124 facilities
At city level, Berlin leads with 103 courts, followed by Hamburg with 86 and Cologne with 54.
Why padel is booming in Germany
- Easy to start. Beginners are rallying within an hour, so people who never played a racket sport join in.
- A huge tennis base. Germany has millions of tennis players. Many clubs are converting courts or adding padel next to them, and tennis players pick the game up fast.
- Always doubles. A padel booking is a plan with friends, colleagues or family, not just a workout.
- Indoor halls. More than half of all courts are covered, so the season never ends.
- Affordable. At a median of €32 per peak hour, split between four players, a session costs about €8 per person.
Düsseldorf: the world's best are coming
From 4 to 11 October 2026, the CASTELLO in Düsseldorf hosts the CUPRA Germany Premier Padel P2, part of the official Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour. All of the world's top 10 players are entered, with around €265,000 in prize money.
Defending champions Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto lead the men's draw, and Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea return on the women's side. Five German teams received wildcards. The finals weekend is already sold out, which says a lot about where German padel stands today.
What's next for padel in Germany
Even after this growth, Germany has just 2.79 courts per 100,000 residents, compared with around 46,000 tennis courts. There is plenty of room left to build, and the curve is still pointing up.
- More courts. New facilities open every week. Bavaria alone added 100 courts between July and October.
- More competition. With a Premier Padel event in Düsseldorf and a growing number of licensed players, the competitive scene is maturing.
- Better players, better gear. As players move from first lessons to leagues and tournaments, demand for quality rackets and apparel is rising fast.
